他目前于巴基斯坦高等教育委员会担任「中国 – 巴基斯坦经济走廊」（CPEC）顾问，专司大学和高等教育机构的能力建设，帮助其培养人力资源，以促进CPEC战略项目的发展。
Lieutenant General (Retired) Engineer Muhammad Asghar, after 35 years of active military service,joined the higher education sector of Pakistan in 2007. He remained the Rector of National Universityof Sciences and Technology (NUST) for over nine years, during which NUST grew three times in size andacquired excellent academic reputation. NUST has been on the list of the top 550 world universities forthe past nine years. QS has elected NUST as one of the top 100 world universities under 50. Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has selected NUST as the top university in Engineering and Technology in Pakistan. He promoted inter-disciplinary and outcome based Education in NUST, which is recognized by the Washington Accord.
Due to his achievement in NUST, he has been awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the second highest civil award of the country, by the President of Pakistan. For his meritorious service in the Military, he has been awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military).
He is a civil engineer with two master’s degrees in Social Sciences. He has been lecturing in the faculty of Military College of Engineering, Command and Staff College of Pakistan Army, and National Defence University of Pakistan.
He is currently a Consultant on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) at the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. He is responsible for assisting the capacity building of universities and higher education institutions, enabling them to cultivate human resource for the strategic CPEC projects.
